Year eight Oxley College student Tim Allen has been selected to tour with the IQ Soccer Academy's under 14 elite squad to the USA next year.
The three-week tour departing on January 2 will take in games starting in San Francisco, where the team will train under the direction of the US Olympic coaching staff at Stanford University.
This will be followed by three tournaments in Los Angeles culminating in the platinum rated Celtic Cup in San Bernardino.
The squad of fifteen boys has been training hard for the tour since January this year, with Tim doing the trip to Sydney several times a week to train with the other players who are principally from the Premier Youth League.
But the travel to and from Ryde doesn't faze him.
"I'm being trained by arguably the best youth coach in the country, so the travel doesn't bother me" he said
"Also, I'm the only country player in the squad, so being a part of this is a great opportunity for me."
As well as the competitive side of the tour, the team will take in a visit to a Los Angeles high school where the players will give an in-class talk about Australia and what it's like to grow up here.
There will also be time in the schedule for some sight seeing between tournaments, while staying with host families meaning it won't be all for work the team.
However, the team is playing 17 games in 23 days. This coupled with the enormous distances they will be travelling means they will definitely have their work cut out for them.
