Spuddies to host Jamberoo

27 May, 2005 08:12 AM
The Robertson Spuddies had another loss on Saturday at Spud Park to the undefeated St Georges Basin Dolphins.

With 33 seconds left on the clock, the Basin attacked the Spuddies line and were awarded a penalty for stripping the ball. They duly kicked the penalty goal for a 20-18 win.

The game started with both sides trying to assert their authority with kick-chase game plans trying to get field position.

The Basin broke the Spuddies scoring soon after a Robertson mistake at the 15-minute mark.

Another try four minutes later, and it looked like the Basin side were getting on top.

This seemed to spark the Spuddies into action, with Robertson gaining all the momentum for the last 15 minutes of the half, but only managed one converted try in the 30th minute to Brett Hammond.

The second-half was much like the first with both sides having chances, but it was the Basin again which made the most of the Spuddies mistakes to score two quick tries at the 10 and 15-minute marks.

From this point on, Robertson was all over the opposition with Matt Mauger and then Pat Molan crossing from set scrums after Basin mistakes. The scores were then locked up at 18-18 with 10 to go.

When it seemed like another try would be scored from this rush of points, a couple of handling errors kept play in Spuddies territory.
