The Robertson Spuddies have provided the first shock of the Group 6 pre-season competition by earning a spot in the final after a 38-0 thrashing of Moss Vale at Community Oval on Saturday.
Led by new captain-coach Andrew Murdoch, the might of the Spuddies pack simply steamrolled the Dragons into submission with no less than six tries coming from the big men.
The Spuddies will now play division one team Picton in the grand final of the pre-season competition in a fortnight.
"Everything is looking good so far and all the guys are very happy," Murdoch said.
"This is the club's second year back from playing union and it's certainly a good start.
"It's also a good confidence boost for the team."
Tough front rower Grant Pointing got the ball rolling for the Spuddies, using brute strength to touch down three times in the first 20 minutes while Murdoch, Hanrahan and Bone all chipped in to give the Spuddies a decisive victory.
"There's no point getting too carried away because we had a couple of players out and the team still has a fair bit to work on," Murdoch said.
"But I think this gives us an indication that we probably are a first grade side and we should go pretty well in the second grade competition."
The Spuddies grabbed a spot in the final after Camden and Thirlmere played out a 14-14 draw, Oakdale beat Mittagong 30-16 and the Oaks accounted for Narellan 48-22.
