It may be a well-worn sporting cliche, but "a game of two halves" is an accurate description of Robertson's 4-3 win over Wests at Frensham on Saturday.
Robertson were all over their Macarthur counterparts scoring four first half goals, including three in the first ten minutes, before allowing the visitors back in the game and almost letting the game slip.
Robertson defender Damian Gair described his side's second half performance as their "worst of the year" and said it is something his side will need to work on.
"We just went to sleep in the second half and when they scored their first goal we just became frustrated and didn't play our own game."
By the time Wests scored their third with about ten minutes to go they were a definite chance of at least salvaging a draw from their road trip, but Robertson held on for an important win which keeps them in touch with competition leaders Mittagong.
"If we would have played like that in the second half against them we would have beaten by 6-4 or even more," Gair said.
"But the first half was really good and if we played like that we probably woud have scored another four goals."
Wests had no answer for Robertson early on as the Spuddies continually found space on the fringes and had too much space and ball-handling skills for the visitors to handle.
The main beneficiary of Robo's dominance was forward Nathan Gair who went close to scoring a couple of times before he put away a deflected shot from Nathan Wright.
Five minutes later he put away another chance and only seconds later the Wests keeper was picking the ball up from the back of the net again with co-captain Scott Denney the goal scorer.
Wests lifted their tempo and managed to stem the scoring flow, before Gair scored himself from a short corner.
But in the second period it all fell apart for Robertson and Gair said it wasn't a case of his side relaxing and thinking the game was already won.
"We didn't say anything like that at half time, the talk was all about going on with the job, but we didn't do that in the second half and it better not happen again if we can help it."
Robertson's style of play suits the fast paced surface of the water base and for the first 30 minutes of the game they looked like world beaters.
"We haven't got a bad turf game considering there's no turf pitch in the district, but a lot of our players have played down the coast [on turf] so that makes it a lot easier," Gair said.
Teenager Nathan Wright once again impressed with his creativity on the right hand side of the park, Darren and Steve Tuddenham had strong games, while Nathan Gair did well in his first game back from a hamstring injury.
In the other first grade men's match at Frensham on Saturday, Burrawang/Moss Vale threw away the chance to win their third game of the year against UWS Macarthur.
