It's the first day of September, and if you are reading this, then you must have at least a passing interest in sport.
You've probably been watching the Olympics and there's also a good chance that you know of someone who has excelled in sport over the past month.
If that is the case, then the Berrima District Sports Awards committee would like to hear from you.
It's the job of the committee to vote on the senior and junior "Sportsperson of the Month" award winners, but they can only do it if they receive nominations from people like you.
The committee meets next Wednesday (September 8) to vote on the senior and junior winners for August. Nominating a sportsperson will only take five minutes of your time and it is easy. The Sports Awards committee needs to know the person's name, senior or junior category (a junior is 16 years of age or under on January 1), the sport and the achievements for the month. The nominee's contact phone number and address is also required.
So what sort of achievements make it through to become a monthly winner? It varies from month to month. Some months the winner has performed well at a local sporting event, in other months he/she may have won a national title.
The most important thing is that a nomination is sent in. That way, even if the person you nominated doesn't win the monthly award, they are still in the running for "Sportsperson of the Year" because the yearly award is only decided from the list of monthly nominations and what they have done over course of the whole year.
