The boys' tennis team from Moss Vale High School have been successful in the past four months.
Six boys from year 10 and 11, Jarrod Morgan, Ben Hayman, Daniel Rule, Ben Warburton, Matthew Burton and Matthew Pietrucha travelled to Figtree, on the South Coast recently. Their journey was to try out for the regional tennis team to compete at the State High School Championships held at Gosford next March.
Competing against boys in their own age groups from as far south as the NSW/Victorian border, west to Yass and north to Campbelltown the six boys were highly competitive.
Jarrod, Daniel and the two Bens were successful in gaining selection in the South Coast Team, with Matthew Burton and Matthew Pietrucha only just missing out.
Although unable to reach the finals all four boys travelled to Queanbeyan to compete in the Stan Jones Memorial Cup representing Moss Vale High School and were narrowly defeated in the second round by the Cooma team who were defending champions in the competition.
The boys were gracious in defeat, displayed good sportsmanship throughout the campaign and were a credit to their school.
Ben Warburton and Jarrod Morgan have signed up for the Kanga Tennis Tour in New Zealand in December where they will compete in three tournaments and have in-tour coaching in order to hone their tennis skills even further.
The Moss Vale boys are looking forward to the competition next year when they can again represent their school.
