Bargo primary school student Shaun Tidyman is off to Lithgow this weekend to compete in the state go-kart racing titles.
Eleven-year-old Tidyman will be competing in the "midget" class for the very last time. That class is for racers aged from seven to 11 years of age, and Shaun will be moving into the rookie class, for drivers aged 11 to 13 years, next year.
"This is my fourth year of racing," Shaun said.
"My big brother Kieran was into motorbikes and went to karts, and I asked dad if I could do it to."
Shaun will be taking on 30 riders in his class, with 16 travelling from Victoria, Queensland and the ACT, and the rest coming from NSW.
The state tiles are a four-day event, with practice on the Thursday, qualifying on Friday and racing on Saturday and Sunday.
All together, Shaun will be involved in six races over the weekend, each 10 to 12 laps at speeds of up to 90 kmh.
Although hoping for a win this weekend, Shaun is also looking to enjoy the experience.
"I haven't raced this event before and it will be tough opposition," he said.
"But we will have fun."
