A Nick Merriman inspired Sharks side put the bite on archrivals the Mariners in a water polo grand final heartstopper at Bowral Pool on Monday night.
It was war on the water as the district's two top teams slugged it out in a frenetic, no holds barred final that went down to a thrilling last gasp finale.
And it was the less fancied Sharks that held their nerve to snatch a narow victory against a Mariners side unbeaten for the last half of the season.
Nick Merriman's ferocious defence and razor sharp arm proved decisive with four goals for the match while stand-in keeper Wayne Hystek had a season-best blinder in goal.
The Mariner's Ben Douglass, who had a running battle with Merriman for much of the match, claimed luck deserted his side when it mattered most.
"It was a very stressful match for us because the shots just didn't go in," he said.
"We haven't lost for a long time and perhaps we were a bit too confident going into it.
"We knew we were the dominant side and it's just disappointing that we didn't do our best."
After a frantic opening exchange, star of the airwaves Steve Anderson sent shockwaves through the Sharks defence, calmly slotting one into the net to give his side an early buffer.
But Merriman's arm was always going to be a factor and so it proved soon after when he landed a classy reverse back shot on goal.
Council waste man Miles Lochhead wasted no time in extending the Sharks lead seconds before quarter time.
A deft Lochhead lob gave him a double soon after and when Merriman landed a long range speculator, the Sharks were suddenly 4-1 up.
With Merriman in goal, Ben Douglass and Stuart Murdoch took control, slotting in three unanswered third term winners.
When Lochhead missed a four metre penalty, the Mariners looked like they could go on with it but Merriman went back into the field with devastating results, scoring a consecutive double and breaking the Mariners spirit.
In the consolation final, the All-Stars scored a thumping 11-4 win over an undermanned Polar bears outfit.
