Riders lose focus in weekly track attack

27 Feb, 2002 08:27 AM

A reduced field took to the velodrome track on Thursday evening with many riders saving themselves for our open carnival at Dunc Grey on Sunday.

The odd rider or two had more important things on their minds- Lyn Robinson in particular who had a wedding to attend on Saturday her own!

Congratulations to Lyn and Simon from al club members.

With the reduced numbers were held only limited events with the 10 lap warm up going to Mark Feeney with Colin Balk second, Justin Tomlinson third, and Don Talintyre in fourth.

Times for the flying 200s as follows:

Colin Balk 13.66; Don Talintyre 13.91; Mark Feeney 14.57, 14.63; Justin Tomlinson 15.14.

A two lap handicap saw mark take first (60 metres) with Don (100 metres) second and Justin (110 metres) in third.

We finished the night early with a 15-lap event that went to Colin with Don second in front of Mark third.

Eleven Southern Highland riders travelled to Dunc Grey on Sunday to compete in the "Bowral Cup" Track open.

Over 100 riders, some from as far away from Bathurst, competed in the 46 event program.

A number of riders that competed are of international standard, with the main event of the meet, the "Bowral Cup", going to Mark Renshaw off scratch.

This is a young cyclist going places in a hurry!

Southern Highlands had some very well deserved minor places in a number of events which meant a little bit of prize money - always welcome.

A big thank you to all our sponsors: Peter Bundy Cycles, Bowral NRMA, Michel Vermande Jeweller, Palate Pleasure Bowral, legend Cycles Bowral and Moss Vale, Cady Air Conditioning and Phantom Cycles Tahmoor.

Without your support we could not have run the event.

Also a big thank you to all the non racing members that came down and helped out as officials.

Last but not least those that sat in the stands and did lots of watching and clapping!

Don't forget we have our club championships at Dunc Grey on Sunday March 10.

All welcome.

We race every Thursday from 6pm at the Eridge Park Velodrome.

Road bikes and new members most welcome.

Enquiries phone Sandra 4889 4039 or Richard on 4868 2475.
