A final wicket partnership of 32 between captain John Ridley and young-gun Jacob Miller put Railway over the line in Sunday's Goulburn/Highlands one-day final against Soldiers at Seiffert Oval.
Railway seemed to be cruising at 2/55, chasing 148, but panic struck when Soldiers picked up 5/37, to having Railway languishing at 7/92.
However, the experienced Ridley came to the crease and with the help of Brad Chilko and Miller they won with five overs to spare.
Earlier in the day Soldiers won the toss and elected to bat in top conditions. Railway began shakily with Simon Grant bowling six no balls in his first over to give Soldiers a kick-start.
Justin Rowlings went about things in his usual way, and raced to 14 before opening partner, Russell Mills, was run out by Brad Chilko for two.
Soldiers then hit a stumbling block with Karl Schubert and John Turner both being caught behind, with Schubert falling to Grant for one and Turner to Ridley for four.
At 3/82 the two powerhouses of the Soldiers' side, Rowlings and Graeme Lees teamed up and set about rectifying their innings.
The two looked in good form, with both plundering the Railway bowlers to, and over the fence in their partnership of 36. But Railway picked up the key wicket of Lees when he was caught behind off the bowling of Gary Anable to give Cartwright his third catch of the day.
