Mittagong started its 2004 Group Six rugby league campain on a sorry note on Sunday, losing 72-0 to last year's minor premiers Oakdale.
Missing five potential first grade players, the Lions didn't so much roar as meow.
All was not lost, however, as the fact the club put a team on the paddock at the Sportsground was an achievement in itself.
Just one week ago Mittagong looked doubtful to field a side at all.
The Lions now have the required numbers to put out the two seniors teams, but they need a solid forward and a couple of good backs to ensure they are competitive this season.
Oakdale took their time to get going but when they did they threw the ball around in dazzling style, running the Lions ragged.
Mittagong were no match with fitness or pace.
Oakdale led 16-0 after 25 minutes but had missed every kick at converting a try. By halftime the Workers led 32-0 - and the procession to the tryline continued in the second half.
When the final bell sounded it was a relieved - and very weary -Mittagong team that trooped off.
