A fitter more agile Sharks outfit outclassed the Polar Bears 14-2 for the start of the Bowral Water Polo A grade competition.
The young Sharks team was there in force, despite HSC commitments by quite a few of them.
This team were the runners up last year, but on first indications it would seem that they are the team to beat this season.
Sharks’ captain Ben Douglass said he owed the win to the off-season training most players had committed.
“The players have been training as a team for the past three weeks,” he said.
“And a lot of the boys go to Sydney to play which helps make us a strong side.
“So that’s why we were able to beat the older guys, who for some of them it was their first swim.”
Best and fairest points went to John Kelly, Andrew McEwan and for the Polar Bears Simon McEwan did a great job in goals.
Congratulations to Dominic Steele and Henry Williams, possibly the youngest A grade players the club has seen.
Next up the Sharks women’s side had to play last year’s premiers Wildcats.
Luckily the Wildcats were missing several of their best players, so the Sharks had a fairly easy win, 8-2.
Best and fairest points went to Simon Kewan and Guy Turland for the Sharks, Liz Maher for the Wildcats.
The Sharks will not have such an easy time of it next time they play.
Last game for the night was the Wildcats against the very tired Polar Bears.
The Wildcats were dominant all game, with the final score 16-7.
Best and fairest: Erin Douglass, Kelly Douglass, Greg McFadzean.
