Local darts golden girl Donna Wood has struck a career-high bullseye by claiming the recent New Zealand Open.
Thirty-one-year-old Wood showed an ice cool nerve and a steady hand to brush aside some of the Shakey Isle's top players in the world ranked event.
Partnered by the mercurial Lee Sutton, the pair stunned their more fancied rivals to take the women's doubles title.
"I've never won anything as good as this tournament and it's just awesome," Wood said.
"It was one of those days where everything went right and it all just happened.
"I must admit I even surprised myself."
Wood, who is ranked top 20 nationally, held her composure to finish third in the singles event the following day.
A regular Zone 7 player in the Highlands competition, Wood earned a title at the Trans-Tasman event after a strong showing in last year's City vs Country state masters league event.
But the Colo Vale mum had to arrest a worrying pre-tournament form slump to make it through to the deciding match.
"I was worried because for a week before the tournament it just wasn't happening for me," she said.
"But as it went on I just started feeling better.
"It didn't help that my partner apologised to me on the morning of our first match because she thought she would go so badly."
After scraping through the opening rounds, the duo snatched a narrow 2-1 victory in the quarter final.
They followed it up with a convincing 2-0 disposal of one of the leading kiwi teams in the semi and topped it off with a resounding 4-0 whitewash in the best of seven decider.
Wood will now look towards July's Australian Open in Gosford.
