Intellectually disabled running sensation Nathan Glarvey has brushed off his Paralympic frustration and broken his own record twice within two weeks.
Despite missing out on a Games berth because his event was not selected, Glarvey has kept his focus to claim the State Disabled Championship 10km race in record time and also finish 19th in the able bodied state title all within a fortnight.
“His effort in the able bodied state titles was fantastic considering he was running against the best runners in the state,” father Dave Glarvey said.
“He was only six minutes behind the leader and managed to beat his best time by one second.”
Better was to come though as Glarvey took the intellectually disabled title the very next week and smashed his record by ten seconds running a 38mins 8 seconds.
Nathan has now set his sights on the upcoming World Disabled Championships in Tunisia.
“I would encourage all parents of intellectually disabled kids to get them into sport,” he said.
“These kids are usually very active and they need a sport to channel that energy into to.
