Mixed results for Burradoo

23 Jun, 2005 03:59 PM
The Burradoo Polocrosse team had a weekend of varying fortunes when they took part in a carnival at Camden last week.

Burradoo fielded three mixed teams and an open team at the Camden equestrian centre, the location for the National Championships in 2006, with the teams experiencing mixed results.

The open team, comprised initially of Mark Gee, Fletcher Christian, Garrick Fay, Bill Heuston, Luke Greenslade and Lillian Rodwell, lost to Singleton in the opening match 13-4.

All of the players worked very hard against the experienced Singleton team, and it was good to see Garrick's horse able to return to play after an earlier injury.

Having played the first game of the day, the team played the final round of the day in failing light.

Canberra dominated the match, emerging victors by 19-5.

Sunday morning saw minor changes in the Burradoo team and improved results, with Burradoo scoring eight goals to Sydney's 13.

The final of the open division gave victory to Singleton over Canberra Royals.

Burradoo's first mixed team was defeated by one goal in the game against Sydney, despite some impressive play.

Maitland's top team proved far too strong for the Burradoo representatives, with several quick goals by the Maitland attacks putting enormous pressure on Burradoo's defence players.

Burradoo's representatives were Kylie Goatham, Taneale Murray and Belinda Anderson in the women and Luke Greenslade, Allan and Neville Gilpin in the men's.

The Maitland first team went on to play the second Hunter Valley team in the final.

Many were aware of the comparable strength of the first three teams from this dominant area of NSW.

Maitland was assertive early in the match, gaining quick goals and demanding constant pressure from Burradoo's defence players.

Few were surprised to see the top two Maitland mixed teams face one another in the A grade final, as all the players had vast experience and were mounted on excellent horses.
