Moss Vale Under 12’s Rangers played Blues 2 with Moss Vale winning the toss. However with the Blues having only seven players Moss Vale coaches Peter Canister and Michael Tiyce elected to field as batting first would not have been in the proper spirit in this particular game.
Most of the boys were given a bowl with Jordan O’Brien 2 for 3, Leigh Doyle 1 for 1, Rhys Lintern 1 for 2, Ben Lawrence 1 for 5 and Heath Staples 1 for 7, all the batsmen were bowled for 31.
Our turn to bat saw Rhys Lenarduzzi 15no and Ricky Doyle 10no gain the necessary runs.
The match between our Under 12 Rovers and Mittagong was played at Lackey Park, after an earlier rainfall the ground was still fit for play.
Even though the Rovers had tidy bowing such as Mark Jones 2 for 12 and Tim Merrideth’s brilliant caught and bowled to dismiss Mittagong’s danger batsmen, Mittagong were still able to set a high target for the Rovers to chase 5 for 102.
Rovers had a couple of promising starts from Matt Conquest and Brendan Roche but were unable to follow on and fell well short of the required runs 10 for 48.
Under 14’s and Under 16’s are currently in 2 day games, so news about them next week.
Third Grade Rovers played Wingello, after losing the toss for the eighth straight time (going for last year’s recordd of thirteen in a row) we were asked to bowl first. We were in trouble at drinks with Wingello 3 for 114. After drinks we got their danger man out then they crumbled to lose seven wickets for 30 runs. The main destroyer Matthew Chadwick 5 for 21, Darren Ward 3 for 40, all out for 144.
Our turn to bat, at drinks we were steady at 3 for 74. Another great batting display by Nathan Ring 78no, taking 60 runs from 19 balls faced, playing some brilliant shots (not slogging) well backed up by Darren Ward 21no and Cameron Smith 22 to have Rovers home 3 for 145 off 28 overs.
Mossy second Grade played Bowral in a two day game at Stephens Park. Bowral won the toss and elected to bat. Moss Vale started the day in the field with only 7, did well until other team members arrived after work commitments. A long day in the field on the first really warm day of the season saw Bowral find the gaps in the field finishing with 9 for 267. Best of the bowlers Glenn Barcicki 3 for 63, Matt Thompson 3 for 42, Tim Eccleston 2 for 36, Geoff Banfield bowled accurately all day, unlucky not to take wickets.
Moss Vale’s first innings chase was going to be difficult from the start, the team without batsmen Steve Barcicki and Neil Poppitt for this game. Geoff Banfield out early for only 4, Peter Canestrari 29 and Mick Thompson 14 the only batsmen to make an impact, Moss Vale’s first innings finished 8 for 71.
Forced to follow on Mossy’s batting improved in the second innings, batsmen to make runs Glenn Barcicki 25, Michael Tiyce 10. The partnership of Mick Thompson 38no and Matt Thompson 26no that lasted 45 overs saved Mossy from an outright loss. The innings finished with Moss Vale 7 for 143.
Moss Vale’s 1st Grade match was declared a draw as the Bradman pitch was considered to be unplayable.
