Mittagong-based Dux Hot Water driver Aaron McGill has finished his first full season in the HPDC V8 Supercar series in fine style, meeting his goal to have a top 10 finish by coming eighth in the series.
Competing in the final second tier V8 Supercar event at Phillip Island on the weekend in his VX Commodore No 32, McGill's consistent race performances in both the Phillip Island Classic and previous races helped bolster McGill from tenth place to eighth on the weekend - as well as a helping of good luck.
In his first race on the weekend, McGill had qualified in 16th place after struggling somewhat to get the most out of the engine in the lead-up, and got off to a flyer at the beginning of the race when he moved up to fifth place at the end of the first lap.
However, damaging his tyres mid-race put McGill back behind the eight ball, eventually finishing in 15th place in race one but the points he collected from that race boosted him up to ninth place for the series.
Going into race two on Sunday qualifying in 15th place, McGill was more than keen to finish the race in a top 10 position and looked on track to perform well after having a great start.
However, a tangle with fellow racer Grant Elliot mid-race again put McGill behind, coming across the line in 13th place.
