Disgruntled first grade cricketers are getting tired of having the majority of their games cancelled due to unsuitable or washed out wickets.

Unable to do anything about the weather, the cricketers are considering holding synthetic wickets in reserve, as a solution to the rainy conditions.

"The guys just want to be able to play cricket, but they can't because of the weather," said Highland District Cricket Association (HDCA) president Steve Granger.

"If I was playing first grade, I know I'd get very sick of not being able to play because there is no alternative pitch to play on."

First grade is yet to even play a game this year, while the entire season has been fraught with missed matches due to rain.

"There is nothing worse than preparing all week to play and then a storm on Thursday night means the wicket is unplayable, even if it's bright and sunny over the whole weekend," said Granger.
