Lions host Dragons in local derby

23 Jun, 2005 03:58 PM
The Mittagong Lions and the Moss Vale Dragons will take to the field for the second time this season on Sunday at Mittagong Sportsground.

The Lions currently have the bragging rights out of the two Highlands' teams, after they came from behind to win the first local derby of the year 32-26 in April.

Moss Vale lead that match by 10 points with 10 minutes to go, and will be hoping to not make the same blunder this weekend.

"It is a must win game for us this weekend," Dragons' coach Matt Burke said.

"It is not so much that we have to win as the finals will be very hard to make for us, but we are really wanting to win."

Lions coach Grahame Andrews said the Lions are not out of the finals picture, and will be looking to continue their form of the last match where they drew with top-five side Picton.

"We are confident if we can win this match then we will get Oakdale," Andrews said.

"It will give us something to play for."

The Dragons have received some good news heading into the clash, with Australian University representative prop George Ghazal available to play after postponing his flight to join the national team.

In the Lions camp, hooker Josh Doyle is confident he will play despite suffering an injury, while the Lions have lost another player heading into the last round.

"Glen Rota is gone and Josh Rose has been missing," Andrews said.

"But we should have (Wests Jersey Flegg player) Steve Bristow on deck this weekend.

"He and BJ (Ngan Woo), along with Allan Rebbeck really dominated last week."
