Mittagong driver Luke Hayes had to seek refuge on the bonnet of his early 70s model Austin as flames engulfed the car after receiving some attention by the three remaining drivers in the competition.
Hayes was a crowd favourite in the four cylinder competition after being dragged around from the bonnet by another car earlier in the day.
Miraculously Hayes and his car were left in better condition than most of the other 20 or so competitors.
