Two sports not used to the limelight shared centre stage on Friday night at the 25th annual Berrima District Sports Awards at Mittagong RSL.
Action pistol shooter Lee Webb bagged the top award - the Senior Sportsperson of the Year, while kayaker Anita Cowley collected the Junior Sportsperson of the Year gong, adding to her already bulging trophy cabinet.
Earlier this month the Oxley College student won the Illawarra Academy of Sport's top honour, The Tobin Family Award, while last year she was named as the inaugural Gilmore Sportswoman of the Year.
The 17-year-old was genuinely shocked to win the districts' top sporting honour, believing Hill Top high jumper Sophia Begg was a certainty to win the award for the second year in a row.
"I watched Sophia get this last year and I never thought I'd be in the same class as she is, so I'm quite surprised, Cowley said in her speech.
"I would just like to thank everyone, including the sponsors and my parents, for making this awards night possible."
The softly spoken student is a person of few words; preferring to let her actions on the water, speak loudly.
In 2003 they certainly did that with Cowley winning the national junior freestyle title, and coming fourth in the open division.
At the World Freestyle Championships in Austria she came seventh in the junior divisions, while more recently she collected a fifth placing at the Pre-World Championships in Penrith in January.
Cowley also excelled in swimming, athletics and cross country for her school, while she finished on top in her age group in the State Triathlon series.
Her brother Tom, himself a top junior cyclist, was also in the running for the junior award, but despite missing out the teenager said he was proud as punch of his big sister.
"Even though I'm her younger brother, seeing your sister get the award is pretty good," he said.
"She's someone to beat, but beating her in awards is almost impossible."
The monthly award winners were also presented with their awards during the gala ceremony and after winning two monthly prizes Webb was a slight favourite for the senior award.
However Webb didn't think he was going to win the award and he said he was just honoured to be nominated along side so many fine athletes.
"I'm just so humble to be here amongst so many fantastic sports people from so many sports in such a small area, it's just great to be a part of it," he said.
"I'm chuffed (because) there's so many good sports people here tonight, it's just so good to be able to be recognised.
Webb represented Australia twice during the year in events overseas , firstly at the Bianchi Cup in the USA, where he came first in the newcomer and revolver classes, as well as the Oceania Championships in New Zealand, where he picked up two bronze medals.
He also finished second in both the NSW and Australian titles and regularly shot over 99 per cent.
"It's a shot in the arm for the local pistol shooting fraternity, in particular the Bowral Pistol Club. We're a great little club out there and we enjoy a good time and we love pistol shooting."
