The State's best junior cyclists tested themselves at Bargo over the weekend at the Cycling NSW Junior Road Championships.
The rain managed to stay away when the races were held, with the time trial raced on Saturday and the road race on Sunday.
Southern Highlands Cycling Club secretary Peter Tomlinson said the course north of Bargo brought the best out of the State's young riders.
"It's a good challenging championship course, it's pretty hard for a club race, but for a championship, where you want the cream to rise to the top, it was good," he said.
The Southern Highlands had two riders competing in the event, with Tom Cowley and Justin Tomlinson riding in the under-17 division.
Both riders found the going tough in their first year in the junior's top age group, with Tomlinson 19th in the time trial and Cowley 25th.
Cowley was still feeling the effects of the flu on Saturday morning and was throwing up minutes before the start of his time trial.
Then on Sunday, the under-17 boys raced in very tough conditions with the almost gale-force winds making the climbs very difficult.
As a result only nine of the 32 starters finished with the riders falling behind the police escort, which included Tomlinson and Cowley, forced to stop.
Anthony Bennett went on to win the under-17s race to go with his win in the time trial on Saturday.
Penrith's Amanda Spratt, who is coached by local coach Michel Vermande, won both the road race and time trial in the under-17 women's, while Angus Morton took out the double in the under-15s.
Dubbo's Megan Dunn won both events in under-13's, while the under-13 boys and under-15 girls events were won by different riders.
Natasha Pearse and Deena-Maree Faulkner were the winners in 15s, while Alex Carver and Andrew Seaman got up in the 13s.
