Helping to tackle vandals

30 Jan, 2005 04:21 PM
Bunnings Warehouse in Moss Vale has come to the rescue of the Moss Vale Rugby League Club, supplying them with mesh in an attempt to reduce vandalism on the Dragon's Clubhouse.

Bunning's community liaison officer Daniel Sturm said the stores manager, Gordon Coulter, had noticed a previous article in The Southern Highlands News of damage to the club and wanted to help.

"At Bunnings we are out to help the community and want to become involved," Sturm said.

"We know what damage vandals can do and what it can cost to replace things," he said.

Dragon's president Grant Russell said that he was very pleased with the support.

"It's great to see a business in the Highlands get behind us," he said.

"We are not after hand-outs but everything we can get to finish the clubhouse helps."

"This is not just about football, this is about sport in the community and the youth."

Russell said the club was still looking at ways to finish the project and was hopeful of more community support in completing the clubhouse.

"If we wait for government funding, this could take years to do," he said.

Sturm said that Bunnings are looking to support more community groups in the area.

"Anyone looking for help, even running barbecues at the store, should talk to us," he said.

"We obviously can't help everyone but we do want to help."

In other Dragons news, their training camp to Gerrigong will be held on February 5 and 6.

NRL trainers have confirmed that they will be taking part in the training weekend, and the Gerrigong Rugby League Club has offered the Dragons their facilities for the weekend.
