After last week’s victory against Fernhill, Highlands United coach Brian Hollywood feels his side has gained a great deal of confidence.
This confidence will be carried through to tomorrow’s testing game against South Coast United at Kembla Grange in the Illawarra Soccer League.
“All the games we play are important to win so we can maintain a finals berth,” Hollywood said.
“But the further the season goes on the more the pressure builds up.”
The volatility of the competition has highlighted that all teams are still in contention with only five points between the top of the ladder, with United in eighth position.
South Coast will also be brimming with confidence as they take the field at home.
The opposition comes into the match with the scalps of the Tarrawanna, who are placed second on the competition’s ladder. Hollywood said both teams were hungry for a win so that they can keep their final hopes alive.
As the pressure increases, Hollywood said United must iron out all imperfections to remain in contention.
Hollywood believes that the squad knows what to do and has the talent to execute this knowledge on the pitch.
“Away games are much more difficult to win,” admitted a concerned Hollywood.
Added to his concern is the loss of key midfielder Craig Hutton, who has been sidelined with a knee injury.
Hollywood believes the loss of Hutton may test the whole team.
“Hutton will be a hard player to make up for,” Hollywood said.
The return of Nigel Tasker as well as the possibility of Martin Dreane being in the line-up will no doubt take the pressure out of the mix up.
The team is: Gary Butler; Wes Ranson, Curt Campbell; Ray Collins; Matthew Cruise; Steven Ash; Nigel Tasker; Martin Dreane Will Jacobs; Chris Spilarewicz; Seth Peters; Rod Eagleton.
