Eagles 15s notch up 'ordinary' win

31 Aug, 2001 08:28 AM

The Highland Eagles’ under-15 players defeated Balgownie 3-2 at Jurd Park on Sunday in what is described as a pretty ordinary game.

The Eagles had the advantage for most of the game with Balgownie only fielding ten players and having one sent off in the second half, leaving them with nine players.

The Eagles failed to take advantage of their chances and played well below their capabilities.

They have now strung together a six game winning streak and hopefully will earn themselves a place in the finals.

The under-16 Boys have had another hectic week and the weekend’s result is evidence of this.

On Tuesday night they played the Highlands United U19s in a friendly, then on Thursday night they played Unanderra in the Grandfinal of the Robert Brown Trophy.

The boys lost on corners after being nil-all at full-time and again after extra time.

In what should have been the match of the season, the game was marred only by the appointment of a referee who was far too young and inexperienced for a game of this standard.

It was an extremely fast and physical game and this showed in the Sunday game which was also against Unanderra.

This game was played in a much slower fashion and had no real bearing on the finals.

Unanderra won the game 1-0.

The Eagles and Unanderra meet again in their next game, the major semi final, after a much-needed break this weekend.

A special mention and thanks to the guys from the Yerrinbool-Bargo club who turned up in droves on Thursday night to support the boys, being very vocal in their support and giving them a much-needed boost.
