The Moss Vale Dragons are preparing for a tough match this weekend, when they take on last season's premiers Narellan at Moss Vale Community Oval.
"Narellan are traditionally a very strong team. They were the premiers in first and reserve grade last year and the runners-up in the under-18s," president of the Moss Vale Dragons Grant Russell said.
"We will certainly have our work cut out for us."
The Dragons are hoping spectators will come out in force to see how they fare against this season's competition favourites. It will also be their first match since returning to first grade.
"The match will be a good yard stick for how we will do in the rest of the season," Russell said.
"It will be interesting to see how we measure up. We have a big task ahead of us, but we just have to confront them and get on with the job.
"It will probably be a couple of matches before we click as a team and adjust to the pace of the first-grade competition."
According to Russell, Narellan has a reputation for being a strong, all-round team with particular strength in the forwards.
"I guess it's the old story; the teams from the northern end of the competition have access to more players which helps their strength and depth," he said.
"There's no doubt that Narellan are strong in the forwards and have size on their side. Our goal is to have a small but mobile pack that can move around quickly."
The Dragons will be hoping to outmanoeuvre Narellan in Sunday's game.
"We want to be smart, move around quickly and make them chase us. We may not be big in size but we are fast and fit," Russell said.
The Dragons will be using this season to foster local league talent and help build the Club's prospects.
"We are looking to support local players and give them a go. We've purchased a few outside players in key positions that we hope will help support the younger blokes," Russell said.
