The girls could only field 11 players, but never gave an inch to the competitions giant stoppers.
Albion Park scored first, but the score was quickly equalled by a brilliant individual goal by Taren Jewell.
The score remained locked at one-all at the half-time break, but didn’t stay that way for long, with Taren finding the net again after some excellent mid-field play.
Albion Park never gave up and pushed the Eagles hard to the final whistle, leaving the 11 girls exhausted but exhilarated with their win.
Best on the field was undoubtedly Taren Jewell, while Kelly Jump at sweeper and Felicity Ashburn also had solid games.
This was an outstanding effort by the girls who fielded at least six players that were still recovering from illness, with Lydia Smithers unable to finish the game, leaving them with only ten players.
U14 Boys: The boys have played three games over the past four weeks, the first against Balgownie, which they won 7-0.
Luke Darling scored his first goal for the Eagles in this game.
The next game was against Figtree and resulted in a 2-all draw.
Luke Darling and Jarrod Morgan scored the Eagles goals.
Their latest game was played at Jurd Park against the competition leaders Unanderra.
The game was pretty even until the twins from the Unanderra team worked their usual magic to score, taking the game to 1-0 at half time.
This fired the Eagles boys up and gave the spectators some of the best soccer they have seen all season from the boys.
Brendan Boyan picked up a loose ball in mid-field, taking it up the right flank and crossing to Andrew Donker who worked around the defence to score a great goal.
Not to be outdone, one of the “twins” from Unanderra sent an unstoppable ball past the Eagles defence and giving Trevor Delbridge little chance to save it.
The final score was 2-1 in Unanderra’s favour.
The results of the Eagles next three matches will determine whether they have a place in the semis or not.
Their next match is against Oak Flats.
U16 Girls: In a top-of-the-table clash, the Eagles’ girls played first-placed Oak Flats on Sunday at Jurd Park.
In a game where all the girls gave their best, goalkeeper Ashley made some exceptional saves and Rachel scored the winning goal to defeat Oak Flats 1-0.
This was the first match of the split-draw for the girls and was a well-deserved result.
U16 Boys: The boys played away to Oak Flats in their first match of the split draw, coming away with an impressive 5-0 win against the team placed fourth on the ladder.
The boys all had impressive games and no one player could be singled out, but a special mention must be given to Trevor Dinham from the U14s, who played as well as any of the older boys on the field.
It has been a while since the boys have played this well and it is hoped that their mid season slump has been well and truly shaken off, as this win follows on the heels of last week’s solid performance.
The boys play Oak Flats at Jurd Park next Sunday, followed by another home game against Unanderra the following Sunday.
They are now thirteen points clear of third-placed Oak Flats on the table and six points behind Unanderra.
