Children flock to Technico Little Athletics at Chevalier

31 Oct, 2001 09:02 AM

More than 140 children flocked to the first competition of the Technico Little Athletics last Friday night at Chevalier College.

Children from six to 15 competed in various events from high jump, long jump, shot put to hurdles.

In her first year as Little Athletics president Lindy Lenarduzzi said she expected to get those numbers.

“The first two competitions have seen great enthusiasm and some good results,” she said.

“The under-9, 10s and 11s are usually the biggest because children keep coming back year after year.”

Lenarduzzi said she took on the role as her daughter was a State athlete and her other two children also competed in the sport.

“It looked at though there was only going to be three members but now we have a terrific committee of seven,” she said.

“We are still looking for parental support and hope it will be a successful year.”

If children are interested in participating they will need a hat, drink, jumper and a responsible adult on the night.

Parents must sign on the sheet to be covered for insurance and will be asked to help by taking stopwatch, raking the pit or organising each age group.

The Zone competition will be held at Beaton Park Wollongong on December 15 and 16.

All children are encouraged to participate for a good social event and a chance to run on the tartan track.

Forms are available from Ruth or Lindy and the cost is $5.

For more information contact Lindy after 3pm on 48683776. If the sun is shining this Friday then there will be a barbecue available.

The dates for the next Gala Days include:

November 11 at St Georges Basin, entires close November 3 but late ones will be accepted and November 18 at Wagga Wagga.
