Bradman Letter up for grabs

29 Dec, 2003 09:35 AM
The cream of the crop of young cricketers in the Southern Highlands are leaving today for a tour of the Riverina, with the historic Bradman Letter clash with Cootamundra to be played tomorrow.

Twelve of the district's best under-16s players are making the trip, with five games to be played in five days.

The youngsters, who have each received a cap from the Bradman Foundation, will play their first match this afternoon, a day-night game against Grenfell, ahead of tomorrow's all-important Bradman Letter match.

Another day-nighter will be played on New Year's Eve against Temora, with further fixtures with West Wyalong on New Year's Day and Young on January 2.

The games against Cootamundra, Temora and Young, in particular, are expected to be tough with the opposition usually able to field strong sides.

All games, weather permitting, are to be played on turf wickets.

As in previous years, the Bradman Letter tourists will be billeted out with families of opposing teams.

Many former Bradman Letter tourists are now either playing representative cricket for the Highlands or grade cricket in Sydney.

Bradman Letter squad: Matthew Arnull, Andrew Benson, Brendon Boyan, Keiran Cotchatt, David Gardner, Tim Howe, Matthew Rose, Jed Schofield, Chris Stalling, Chris Streater, Michael Williams and Nathan Wright.
