Bowral canoeist's first place finish

29 Nov, 2005 04:19 PM
Local plumber and Bowral resident Richard Jefford recently completed the gruelling Hawkesbury Canoe Classic, finishing first in his class after paddling 111km overnight.

Jefford finished in a time of 13 hours, 48 minutes and 58 seconds, winning the open TK1 class, while raising more than $700 for the Arrow Foundation during his paddling process.

The Hawkesbury Canoe Classic, one of Australia's great endurance races, sees competitors paddle from Windsor to Brooklyn with more than 580 entrants taking part.

Jefford first became involved in the Hawkesbury Classic after a family member competed in the event and encouraged Jefford to participate for a great cause and as a physical challenge.
