bowral bowling club: Festive cheer prevails at Bowral bowling club

The Mugs of the Month were awarded on Wednesday December 19 when forty bowlers were present.

The winning rink was selected and Howard Delaney, Bert Goodsell, John Babister and Kurt Griebenow were the happy foursome.

Ten rinks of pairs then played off for half hams and Christmas cakes.

Winners were Owen Williams and Kevin Moore with Jim McMillan and Jeff Richardson runners up.

The jackpot of $110 was not won.

Friday mixed twilight bowls was again a merry affair with the ladies and some of the men dressing for the occasion and contributing to the festive feeling.

Santa Claus in full regalia was overheated and hard at work and the Christmas raffles for hams, turkeys, pork and other seasonal delights kept all those present entertained and busy.

Winners of half hams for the night were Jack Ford and Bruce Clynes and the runners up for Christmas cakes were Joy Woodey, Norma Canings and Athol Hendrie.

During a lull in proceedings, club chairman, Gordon Lewis made a presentation of a cheque for $1000 from the clubs charity fund.

Salvation Army Captain Grant Andrews was the recipient of the cheque and suitably responded to Gordon’s presentation address.

Saturday saw a change from the usual game when Turnabout Triples was the competition for the afternoon.

The thirty six men present all enjoyed the change and were kept on their toes each playing as lead, second and skip during the game.

Winners of half hams were, Phil McIntyre, John Ashcroft and Gordon Lewis and runners sup for the cakes were Brian Cox, Bernie Casey and Robert Sutherland.

The jackpot did not go off.

There will not be any bowls on Boxing Day next Wednesday and the next future events will be Friday December 28 mixed twilights Saturday 29 and then Wednesday January 2.

Members having birthdays during the week are: Thierry Albouze, Joe Mason, Noel McMaster, Maria Rizetto, Moira Houghton, Chris Moore, Murry Plung, Nancye Garske, George Moule, Graham Wheeler, Russell Fahey, Harold Wright and Mark Hall.

The winner of the twenty dollars worth of free tickets in next Sunday nights tombola was Rachel Frear and the winner of the free competition for the colour TV set was Tony Eccleston.
