Blacks’ tight five best in competition

29 Jun, 2001 09:37 AM
It will be up to the Bowral Black’s tight five to lift their side to victory against Campbelltown at Campbelltown Showground tomorrow.

Blacks’ coach Chris Krebs considers his tight five consisting of Scott Krebs, Ricky Krebs, Josh Thomas, Michael Krebs and Nick Combes to be one of the best in the Illawarra District Rugby Union competition.

“They are the best is the competition,” Krebs said.

He said Campbelltown was a top team and his side would have to watch out for their fullback Steven Lock and their hooker, John Valatu, who has played for NSW Country.

“Campbelltown are strong all over the paddock particularly in the forwards,” Krebs said.

He said the Blacks’ centre Chris Petersen and fullback Trent Rengger would hold the back-line together.

“This is one of the best side’s I can pick and hopefully they will bring us some luck,” Krebs said. “It can’t get any worse. Things can only get better.”

Blacks’ captain Troy Ingrey echoed Krebs’ sentiments when he said that the first grade side had the best tight five in the competition. However, Ingrey said the Blacks again had a different back-line with Petersen and Justin Dykes returning from injury.

“With Petersen in the centres he will fix the back-line problem. Then we will cross our fingers and hope for the best,” Ingrey said. “The lack of consistency in the back-line is what lets us down so we will have to dominate in the forwards.”

He said the last the Blacks met Campbelltown it was a close game except for the last 20-minutes where his side lapsed in concentration.

The Blacks’ first grade team is: Ricky Krebs, Mary Krebs, Nick Combes, Josh Thomas, Mick Krebs, Bob Payne, John Ewing, Troy Ingrey, Al Carpenter, Damien Tyson, Chris Petersen, John Rolles, Justin Dykes, Daniel Marmont, Trent Rengger.
