Big wins to Moss Vale seconds leading into finals

31 Aug, 2001 08:36 AM

A big win to Moss Vale in second grade match with the final score 9-0. Penguins never gave up but Moss Vale where just too strong, dominating from the start and never letting up in attack. Penguins did well to hold Moss Vale out with the first goal not going in till a good 20 minutes into the first half, then the goals just seemed to keep coming. There was some great lead up play to the circle with many shots going wide or being saved by the keeper but we kept up the intensity right to the end. Faye had a great game leading up front scoring six goals, not quite sure how many she missed though. Lauren, Maureen and Tempo added one each, but a real team effort for many of the goals. Gaylene once again had a great game, as did Lauren, Tempo and Sandra. Shani also played well but won’t be using her lips for a couple of days.

2nd Grade v Grevilleas

Another great win to the girls, with a 4-0 victory. A much closer game than the previous day, but by far one of the best team games of the year, with plenty of short passing and talking. We attacked solidly down the right side in the first 15 minutes with Lauren doing some magic stuff using her pace and skill to really pressure Grevilleas early. Though we had much of the attack, Grevilleas did raided our circle with Rhonda pulling off some great saves and combined with Kylie, Deidre and Julie and only having nine goals scored against us for the season shows the club has one of the best defensive line ups in the game. Debbie dominated again in the middle directing play and was well supported by Maureen, Gaylene and Sandra. Nerida also worked hard putting some great balls across the circle. Goal scorers where Shani two, perfecting that left wing spot, Fay one, playing and looking much better than she felt and Debbie also scoring one.

• Mittagong hockey club

The club has come to the end of the season for some of its junior teams although having minor premiers in most junior grade is an excellent achievement.

To have a get together before the semis we will be having a bonfire and barbecue on this September 1 at 7pm onwards.

Adults and children are all welcome just bring your own meat and drinks.

Phil and Tammy Worner are providing the venue so come along to Philtam Park out along Wombeyan Caves Road.
