Begg's juggling act

17 Oct, 2006 05:33 PM
Australian junior high jump champion Sophia Begg has her sights set on another national title but will have her preparations interrupted as she begins HSC exams on Friday.

The Bowral High School student will sit her final English exams on Friday and Monday followed by a visual arts exam next week.

Despite the importance of the exams, the 18-year-old maintained study will not interfere with her quest for another national gold medal in the under-19s women's high jump at the Australian All Schools championships in December.

"I am completing my HSC via Pathways at the moment which allows me to do it over two years," Begg said.

"I'm always training and it's difficult to juggle school with athletics - this way I can do them both.

Begg easily qualified for the Australian All Schools Championships this year, winning the under-19s women's high jump at the NSW All School championships almost three weeks ago with a leap of 1.7m.
