Annabel rides a wave of success

26 Oct, 2005 08:25 AM
Eleven-year-old equestrian rider Annabel Mulready is riding a wave of success after winning the NSW Hack Council Junior Rider of the Year at the Sydney Equestrian Centre recently.

After winning the event at Hoarsely Park more than 10 days ago, Annabel has now qualified for the prestigious Grand National Rider of the Year.

She will compete against riders from around Australia at the event, to be held at the Equestrian Centre in March next year.

Annabel, who rode her new pony "Weatherly Enchantment" (affectionately known as Chad) in the NSW Hack Council event, said she was very pleased with herself but mostly with her horse as he carried her well.

Without a good horse success at this level is much harder and it is very much about the horse and rider combination being right.

Annabel is not new to equestrian success, having achieved a number of accolades at the Sydney Royal and Canberra shows.

As a seven-year old entering the six-and-under-nine category at the Sydney Royal show for the first time, she came second in her riding class in a field of 30 young riders and the following year she won the same class.

She has also come second for the last three years in the under-12's class at the Canberra show.

Annabel has also had a tremendous season this year, having just completed a run of shows out west of seven shows for seven champion riders.
