Action hots up in soccer competitions

29 Aug, 2003 08:33 AM
The three All Age men's divisions, as well as the under-10, 11 and 12 all enter the business end of the season this weekend, with the other grades playing their final rounds on Saturday.

Boronia Reserve at Hill Top is the scene for the division one men's semi-finals, with neighbouring Colo Vale hosting the division three deciders at Jurd Park.

The division three title appears wide open with two teams finishing on top of the competition on equal points and a third team one win behind them.

Highland Rovers and Exeter both finished on 22 points, with Rovers claiming the minor premiership thanks to a superior goal difference.

The two sides will face off against each other at 3pm with the winner of the match progressing straight through to the grand final.

Earlier in the day Hill Top takes on Robertson in the other semi-final with the loser of that match out of the competition.

Meanwhile, up the road at Hill Top there will be four games of top quality soccer played in the afternoon, with the four finalists in the division one and two grades on show.

In division one, Yerrinbool once again appears to be the team to beat with the side winning the minor premiership comfortably.

They face Hill Top at 3pm in the major semi with a spot in the premiership decider on the line.

The loser of the match will take on the winner of the Patris and Highland Rovers clash next week for the other grand final berth.

The Moss Vale club has qualified two sides for the division two finals, with Moss Vale B finishing on top, while the A team was third.

The Bs will meet Yerrinbool's second side in the major semi, while Moss Vale A plays Robertson in the elimination game.

Most of the junior finals will also be played at Hill Top, with other matches at Jurd Park and Ironmines.

In under-10s Bundanoon finished on top, with Yerrinbool the leading team in division two.

Minor premiers in the top under-11 division was Exeter, with Bowral B leading division two.

Hill Top finished on top in under-12s and play Bundanoon in their semi-final.

The women's competition meanwhile has one round to play before the finals, as do the older junior age groups.

These competitions are running jointly with the Goulburn Soccer Association, which is the reason for the difference in scheduling.

The minor premiership in ladies' division one has already been secured by Moss Vale B, but there is still planty of teams fighting for positions in the finals.
