MITTAGONG mare Tiddlywink and her owner/trainer Shane Evans hope to break through for their first win at Bong Bong in race one today.
Tiddlywink and Graeme Spackman’s Dancing Brooklyn line up to defend their home turf against a number of interstate raiders in the 1000-metre Southern Highlands Wines Maiden Plate.
Evans said his strapping four-year old mare by Commands was due to break through for her first race win.
“She has had a couple of seconds and a couple of thirds from about eight starts,” Evans said.
“She’ll definitely be competitive and put in a good race.”
Evans has reunited with jockey Alan Barton for the race and the pair will look to extend their impressive strike rate.
The trainer said Barton had only ever ridden one of his horses for one win - Wartime which won at Crookwell.
Evans and his partner Natalie Terry train from their Kings Park Stud in Mittagong.
The pair made their Bong Bong debut last year, with a second (Lady Artemis) and a third (Wartime) in their only two races.
Evans said training was a “bit of fun” for the stud which specialises in spelling and pre-training horses.
“The business is mainly built around spelling and pre-training,” he said.
“But racing horses we own is something we do for enjoyment.”
The boutique stud just off Wombeyan Caves road is confident of picking up its first Bong Bong victory at 1.40pm today.
