AS a youngster growing up in Bowral, Megan Rivers always dreamed of representing Australia at the Olympics.
For the Hockeyroos’ starlet that dream is less than two weeks away and readers are encouraged to show their support through Telstra’s HeroMessage, now in its twentieth year.
Since making her debut for Australia in 2003, Rivers has impressed with her speed in front of goal, and her place in the Beijing Squad was cemented with an impressive performance at the recent Champions Trophy where she finished joint top scorer.
For the 27-year-old Rivers, now based in Perth, it is an opportunity to put aside her disappointment at missing selection for the 2004 Athens Olympics.
Telstra Official, Bill Obermeier, has urged Bowral to get behind Rivers at the Olympics.
“Telstra HeroMessage gives Bowral residents a unique opportunity to interact with their local sporting heroes,” he said.
“The latest advancement in the Telstra HeroMessage service allows the athletes to personally respond to messages they receive from fans. Telstra is proud to be a part of keeping athletes closer to their families, friends and fans back home.”
Swimming superstar Grant Hackett, at the launch of the Telstra HeroMessages, believes the messages are vital for the athletes when they are away from home.
