Moss Vale and Mittagong continued their domination of first grade women’s hockey with victories at Welby on Saturday.
Moss Vale shut out cellar dwellers Bowral, while Mittagong scraped home against Burrawang 2-1.
Moss Vale captain Lynda Stone bagged a double and Hayley Ticker scored as Moss Vale cut lose from a 0-0 halftime deadlock to win easily.
The game was evenly matched in the first half and Bowral coach Paul Bunt said his team should have scored at least three times in the opening 15 minutes.
“Our strikers did not perform and we kept taking the wrong options. We had two runaways that ended up with the ball going out,” he said.
“Our midfield dominated and Belinda McNaught and goalie Amy Laughton had good games.”
Moss Vale manager Jackie Tickner said the team played well.
“We had passages of brilliance with some good transfers and overlapping down the field. With two of our three backs away it was a credit to the girls who played there and did well. The best were Brooke Hawke, Hannah Urquhart and Karla Temporali,” she said.
o Burrawang had the league leaders on the back foot, opening the scoring in the first half to lead 1-0. The speed of Mittagong’s forwards got them back in the game and Jemma Delamont found Chantelle Montarnari unmarked in the circle three minutes before the break to level the score 1-1 at halftime.
Cindy Garrard then scored the winner six minutes into the second term. Lady Lions coach Yolande Isedale said it was a tight game.
