THE Mittagong Lions recovered from an early scare to see off title rivals Moss Vale in the first grade women’s major semi-final preview at Welby on Saturday.
Robertson kept their fifth successive title hopes on track by securing their finals berth with a 2-1 win over Bowral.
With both teams already finishing one-two Moss Vale coach Bluey Veivers said he tried a few different tactics and player positions in the penultimate round.
The changes bore fruit straight away with Brooke Hawke piercing through the Lions’ defence to slam home the opener in the second minute.
Lion Jemma Delamont hit back off a short corner five minutes later with a straight shot and Chantelle Montanari also scored off a short corner just before the break to give Mittagong a 2-1 halftime lead.
In the dying minutes Dea Gooden scored from a Rebecca Cross pass to seal Mittagong’s 13th win. Mittagong coach Yolande Isedale said the team held firm.
“Our girls didn't panic when they scored early. Brooke Poulos was very good in defence and Nat Thomson and Jemma Delamont are in great form,” she said.
