A LATE flurry of goals ensured Mittagong consolidated their lead atop the women’s first grade table with a 3-1 victory over Bowral at Welby on Saturday.
With both sides battling icy conditions it took a double from influential Lions player Jasmine Bailey to see off a brave Bowral side.
Mittagong coach Yolande Isedale was pleased with the performance.
“We were happy with the result, although we didn’t really dominate ‘til the second half,” she said.
The Lions took the lead in the 1seventh minute when some good lead-up work from Natalie Thomson and Jemma Delamont resulted in Cindy Garard finding the net.
Bowral hit back shortly after the break through Simone Bunt, who despite playing with a broken finger, caused problems in the circle and deservedly put Bowral on equal terms.
The stage was set for a pulsating finish but it was Bailey who sealed the points for the Lions with two second half strikes that sent Mittagong six points clear of Moss Vale with five rounds remaining.
