Bowral’s first grade women’s hockey team notched up their first win, 3-2, in seesawing game against Burrawang at Welby on Saturday.
The cellar dwellers were never separated by more than one goal but a hat-trick from the Blues’ Claire Howe proved the difference.
Howe opened the scoring midway through the first term before Jackie Eccelston evened the ledger. Howe scored her second after the break to put Bowral up 2-1 but Jodie Handley equalised soon afterwards. Howe slotted home the winner with five minutes to go.
Bowral coach Paul Bunt said the girls were happy to finally get a win.
“It was not our best performance, we have played better but could not score goals. Claire’s’ aggressiveness up front was the difference,” he said.
“We contained them a lot better and Tina Moore in defence was solid. Amy Laughton in goals and Simone had good games.”
Burrawang captain Brooke Allen said Belinda Egan was their best in an “average” game.
Allen said her team moved the ball well out of their end and the team younger players, like Eccleston and Rachel Donavan, were improving.
o A last minute goal from Carla Temporali salvaged a 1-1 draw for Moss Vale against Robertson on Friday night.
The grand final replay was a tough battle with the teams deadlocked 0-0 until the last eight minutes. Kylie Bisby scored a solid goal to put Robertson ahead 1-0 and had two other goals disallowed in a strong performance.
Robertson coach Damian Gair said the first half belonged to Moss Vale, but his girls dominated the second term.
