DEFENDING Moss Vale Golf Club Ladies Classic champion Shani Waugh said she was excited to be heading back to the Highlands next week.
The West Australian will be of 70 high profile female golfers competing in Moss Vale’s Pro-Am event from Wednesday to Friday.
A prize purse of $25,000 for the fourth round of the Club Car Series is on offer and Waugh, who retired from the international scene last year, will only join the series for round three in Russel Vale on Monday.
“I am quite motivated and love coming to the Highlands, it is such a beautiful place,” Waugh said.
Waugh said she had been enjoying her time away from competitive golf but had played in only a few exhibition matches through the year. She said she was currently focused on coaching.
Waugh, who has played at Moss Vale four times before, said precision not brute force was the key to success there.
“It is a tight course with a few tough holes,” she said.
Waugh said competition would be stiff with Queenslander Sarah-Jane Kenyon one to watch.
Kenyon played in America this year and won on the Duramed Futures tour. This secured her card to play full time on the richest and strongest women tour next year - the LPGA.
Victorian Kate Combes won the first event of this year’s Club Car Series at Mollymook and Joanne Mills is a multiple winner on the Ladies European Tour and also won the LS Bing Lee NSW Open in 2007.
