Russell runs rampant

Mittagong speedster Dylan Russell made the most of his trip the National Primary School Sport Association (PSSA) Athletics titles in Launceston by bringing home a silver and a bronze medal.

The 12 year-old won a silver medal in the 4x100m relay on Friday and a bronze in the 100m on Saturday.

Dylan ran in a time of 12:07 in the 100m final to claim bronze.

The NSW relay team won silver with a time of 48:27.

Russell ran the last leg of the relay and took the baton with NSW running fourth.

He made up ground on his opponents to get NSW on the podium.

A Victorian kid won the 100m in a time of 11:81 and the silver was won by fellow New South Welshman Alex Jalloh.

Jalloh beat Russell in the State titles.

Russell won his 100m heat easily in a time of 12:32 and said he thoroughly enjoyed his time in Launceston.

The Mittagong Primary School student was proud as punch with his medals.

He went directly from the airport to Mittagong primary on Monday to celebrate his achievements with school friends .

Mittagong Primary’s principal Brett Neill said it was a terrific effort by Russell.

Russell said he would also like to run in the 400m but is not interested in running any longer distances.

Russell also plays rugby league and has been chosen in the Group 6 under-13s representative side for next year.

He said he prefered playing rugby league to sprinting.
