The Moss Vale Magic are only halfway through their State League basketball campaign but already they have recorded their best season to date.
Moss Vale made franchise history by notching up their first ever back-to-back wins with a 100-78 triumph over the Bathurst Goldminers at Bathurst on Saturday night.
The Magic’s third win of the season saw them hit the 100 point mark for the first time this year, while point guard Michael John made his biggest impact this winter.
The new recruit hit 15 first-half points on his way to 18, including four long bombs. John hit three consecutive three-pointers after the long break to give his team some breathing space after they led narrowly 43-39.
Moss Vale trailed 22-18 at the first break and coach Kevin Campbell said he was not happy with his side’s first half performance.
“We did not start well and all of a sudden found ourselves trailing. We picked it up in the second half after we changed up our defence.
“We started with a man-to man defence but switched to a 3-2 zone. Dom Lenarduzzi and Jack Channels sparked us off the bench with some great defence,” he said.
The Magic led 74-61 at the last break and outscored Bathurst 57-39 in the second half.
The Goldminers Tim Foggarty hit a game high 28 points, including four threes, but it was in vain as nine of Moss Vale’s players contributed in their 22-point victory.
