Southern Highlands Cycling Club president Richard Vollebregt will travel to the United States later this year to compete in the 4900km Race Across America.
On June 3, Mr Vollebregt will fly out for the race, which begins on June 10.
Mr Vollebregt said the ride would be a tough challenge that he was looking forward to.
"It's not going to be a walk in the park – it's a hard race," he said.
"We begin the race at the west coast at a place called Oceanside in California, then we ride across the entire country to Atlantic City on the East Coast."
