A hat-trick from Robertson first grade women’s hockey captain Brooke Handley finally put her side in the winners circle in 2008.
After two big losses Robertson bounced back to record their first win of the season 4-1 against Bowral at Welby on Saturday.
Both sides made a strong start to the match. Bowral’s Kim Bunt opened the scoring after just 90 seconds from a short corner.
Robertson struck back only minutes later courtesy of a Rachael Martin goal following sustained pressure in the circle. Hadley scored her first goal soon afterwards to give Robertson a 2-1 half-time lead.
Four-time defending champion coach Damian Gair said Hadley’s last goal was her best.
“She undercut the ball to score a great goal from some good build-up play in the field - it was a cracker,” he said.
Gair said, after conceding nine goals in two weeks, the team’s defence stepped up.
“We put in a really good defensive effort and by attacking a lot better than we had before we took a lot of pressure off ourselves.
“We transferred the ball tightly and Handley lead well from the front,” he said.
