ROBERTSON pair Chloe Vincent and Carmen Davies shut down Bundanoon A’s gun striker Kayleigh Davis to help the Rovers record an emphatic 3-2 win in the women’s first division final.
Rovers coach David Cruikshanks said the sweeper and stopper were instrumental in the win.
“It’s no secret that shutting down Kayleigh is the only way you can beat Bundanoon,” he said.
“They knew we would put girls on her to shut her down but our two marking her were great.”
Robertson’s Abby “the gazelle” Bartlett scored the match winner with less than five minutes left on the clock to sink Bundanoon’s chances.
Cruikshanks said Bartlett was awarded player of the match while Emma “the wombat” Green provided some quality ball from the midfield.
Bartlett scored the first and third goals, while her sister Jenna Bartlett picked up the team’s second.
Davis scored Bundanoon’s two goals.
Robertson’s players celebrated their win at the Robertson Bowling Club late into the night on Saturday.
“We knew we could win going into the game going by what we did to Bundanoon in the semi-final a fortnight ago,” the coach said.
Division two minor premiers take the title
HILL TOP scored a hard-fought 1-nil win over Crookwell in the women’s second division final on Saturday.
The Kookaburras Laura Robertson scored the match winning goal to the delight of the green crowd gathered on the sidelines.
Hill Top coach Mark Burke said the team improved dramatically throughout the season.
“We played the first four or five games with only eight players and were humbled actually,” the coach said.
“We copped a few hidings but once we got the full squad we have improved each week.”
Burke said the challenge now was to keep the team together for next season.
“Each year the top teams like Bundanoon and Robertson tend to have the same players,” he said.
“We have to start from square one and it always seems to take us up to half of the season to click.”
