IT was a case of “you win some, you lose some”for the Bundanoon Rebels last weekend, although all games could have gone either way in the wet and slippery conditions.
Rebels under-10s are still undefeated and coach Paul Walker is pleased with how the team is progressing.
“We didn’t have any subs last weekend, but despite the conditions, the players showed tenacity and worked very well together as a team,” he said.
“Passing is improving, as is their understanding of the importance of positioning on the field.”
Rebels third grade men’s captain-coach, Bernd Roux said his team’s 3-1 win over Exeter was a topsy-turvey ride as each team had numerous chances.
After 20 minutes of even exchanges, Sam Turner put the Rebels in front when Exeter’s goalkeeper couldn’t hold on to a shot in the slippery conditions.
Exeter equalised soon after, but Bundanoon hit back with a second goal.
The Rebels’ second goal came after some good lead-up work from the backs, through the halves and a cross was met by Simon Weston who fired the ball into the back of the net.
The two teams had their chances in the second half, but Turner was the only one to capitalise.
Turner slotted a free-kick from 25m out to seal the game.
“Our right back Glen Cubit was in everything, stopping numerous attacks with non-stop running while keeper Phil Tallon put his body on the line saving our team on a number of occasions and Shaun Smith created havoc up front,” Bernd said.
