Patris’ first graders have silenced their critics with a gutsy 2-1 win over Exeter on Saturday.
Under fire for their attitude in some matches, Patris battled on with 10 men, then nine and eventually eight players but still managed to take away the three competition points at Jurd Park.
Dan Riley turned from hero to villain after putting away a penalty to put Patris up 1-0 20 minutes in but was sent off only 10 minutes later. Patris were awarded a dot shot after John Barnes made a reckless challenge on Tom Simmons.
Riley was given his matching orders after he verbally abused an Exeter player following an argument, Patris player-coach Simon Roberts said.
Riley is looking at a likely four-week ban, which teammate Tim Stone received more than a month ago for a similar incident. Stone will return for Patris this Saturday.
Rowan Smith gave Patris a 2-0 halftime advantage with a cracking shot from 30 metres out that sailed into the top middle of the net, Roberts said.
